The Fraunhofer IAP offers a complete range of polymer applications which include high-performance fibers and composites for lightweight construction, organic light diodes for flexible screen displays and artificial corneas for use in eye implants. We develop materials, processes and products that are tailored to meet the special requirements of our polymer applications.
Imagine a very lightweight, energy-saving, foldable or rollable display that offers a perfect picture from any angle − no matter how bright the room is. This is not a future vision, it is close to reality − achieved by the flexible organic light-emitting diodes, OLEDs. TVs with OLED technology represent the next generation of displays that will soon be available everywhere. The screen is only one example in which the OLED technology will be applied. OLEDs can also be used as symbol displays, segmented displays and as light sources.
Nanomaterials already conquered almost every area of our lives. In cosmetics, paints and cleaning products, we find them today in every household. The materials we develop show completely new properties and can improve the light performance of a display, they can "collect" the light from the infrared spectral region but are also used in medical diagnostics. Quantum dots are revolutionizing the display technology and improve the efficiency of solar cells. For this we develop customized materials.

Quantum Dots (QD)
Producing high-quality nanoparticles requires technical know-how regarding the influential processing parameters. Fraunhofer IAP has developed several procedures for the synthesis and modification of QDs and can provide a wide variety of QD-materials. Besides conventional cadmium selenide and infrared active QDs, Fraunhofer IAP has developed environment-friendly indium phosphide QDs for LED/OLED and display technologies. In addition, infrared active copper indium sulfide QDs have been synthesized.
Recent developments have concentrated on water dispersable indium phosphide QDs for bioanalytical applications. Here, Fraunhofer IAP has developed a method to provide very stable indium phosphide quantum dots with a high quantum yield.
Fraunhofer IAP provides QDs tailored to your needs, covering the whole spectral range from blue to infrared with optimization of relevant parameters including emission wavelength, quantum yield, FWHM or stability in organic and aqueous phases or other matrices.
